Common Issues We Repair:

12V System:

The 12V system is the brain of the RV Electrical system and is critical for proper function. Common issues with a 12V System included blown fuses, excessive demand, low 12V battery, faulty connections, incorrect wiring and improper wire size. Your appliances will not function if the 12v system is not functioning properly and often leads to incorrect diagnosis.

Converter:

Your converter handles multiple jobs and often is overlooked on how important its function is. The converter is able to convert 120 volt AC power to 12 volt DC power and even charge your batteries. We often find converters can just stop working, overheat, have a bad connection, or work intermittently. A failing converter can often be misdiagnosed.

System Overload:

RV electrical systems have much lower limits than those found at home and can often lead to an electrical overload. Proper power management is key to properly stay within the electrical systems limits. Running multiple high electrical draw appliances is usually when this occurs. Common items are microwaves, AC units, hair dryers, air fryers… often when these are run at the same time.

Loose Connections:

A loose electrical connection can be an extreme hazard if not caught in time. A bad connection can lead to arcing, overheating and intermittent power loss. Loose electrical connections can be caused from all the bumps on the road or improper installation, which requires regular service to prevent.

Slide Out Problems:

Slide out motors run on 12 volts and when you have issues with the electrical system you will often little to no power for the slide out to function. It is not uncommon for lights to work but not the slide out, this is because the slide out electrical system requires a high amount of amperage.

Improper Wiring:

Using the wrong wire type and gauge is a common problem in RV electrical systems. More commonly the issues come up on the 12 volt side of the system, and the gauge size is often too small for the particular need. While 12 volt may seem like a low voltage it is often the amperage that varies and the wire should match the need. A common symptom is intermittent power or blown fuses.

Dim or Flickering Lights:

Dim or flickering lights is good indication of an electrical system issue. While there could be several items to troubleshoot, a common problem can be the 12 volt source such as the battery or converter.

Bad Power Source:

RV owners often assume the RV pedestals at parks are safe however if not wired properly they can be a source of electrical problems in the RV. Reverse polarity, loose connections and a worn pedestal plug affect how your RV delivers power to all the electrical systems. These issues can lead to a failure of your converter, arcing at the pedestal, damage to your components and blown fuses among other issues.

Awning Motor Problems:

Like slide out units, awning motors work on 12 volts and require a higher amperage. When the 12 volt system is faulty you will notice items such as awnings not function.

Appliances Not Working:

12 Volt power is the brain of the RV appliances like a water heater, furnace and air conditioner, if the system is compromised then the appliances will not function. Even if the appliances use propane, like a furnace, the thermostat depends on 12 volts to properly function.

Breaker Panel Issues:

Breakers from time to time can fail and need replacing, however more common are loose connections that create issues. It is a good idea to periodically check your panel for tight and secure connections.
